THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
Directed by: Arthur Lubin
"She is singing to bring down the chandelier!"
In 1925, Universal made horror movie history with the Lon Chaney version of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. This film helped forge Universal’s heritage of horror, a heritage that includes Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy and the Opera Ghost! In 1943, the decision was made to remake this classic chiller about a disfigured madman who haunts the Paris Opera House. This time, no expense was spared to bring this ghastly tale to life. Shot in glorious Technicolor, boasting enormous sets, a cast of literally thousands, wonderful singers and a Phantom portrayed by Claude Rains, the 1943 PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is a towering achievement. Despite a lavish production, the film still retained the tragic love story of the Phantom and his beautiful young protege, Christine. It is a heartbreaking tale of love, revenge and music – a tale that withstands the test of time.
THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA has never looked or sounded better since its release because this edition, which includes the theatrical trailer, has been digitally enhanced for the optimum in picture and sound quality.
